Busy tournament director starts up an event to keep busy

20061001midfestMIDDLETOWN – When summer drags on and you get a bit bored, the most obvious thing to do is to start up a soccer tournament, right?

That is exactly when Kathy Stites did. Besides starting up and running the Midfest Classic – now in its third year – Kathy is the tournament director for the Middletown Spring Blast. The Blast is held in March every year at Smith Park, Jacot Field and recently, the Lebanon Sports Complex. The tournament hosts over 200 teams from multiple states.

“The period of time for planning, marketing and holding the tournament falls between our spring and fall outdoor league seasons as well as the last and first sessions for indoor soccer,” Stites explains rather casually. “I just had some extra time and skills.” She is also the director of activities at the Kingdom Sports Center in Franklin.

It keeps her busy, but that is just the way Stites likes it. “I get bored if there is not too much to do.”
